10 Fun Facts About Lesley
I thought it would be fun today to share a little bit more about who I am outside of interior design. I love to get to know the people behind the businesses that I follow online and interact with on social media. And maybe you and I have some weird quirky things in common? So get ready for funny GIFs and 10 fun facts about Lesley (aka, me).
1. Movie I Can Quote from Beginning to End: 10 Things I Hate About You
Despite being a teen comedy, I adore 10 Things I Hate About You. Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger will always and forever be one of my favorite movie couples! I loved that movie at age 16, and it still holds up 21 years later.
2. A Must-Watch TV Show: Santa Clarita Diet.
I am so bummed that Santa Clarita Diet got canceled before finishing because it is the weirdest, quirkiest, darkest, and funniest. It’s such a bizarre show. I love Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore together, and I think it’s phenomenal. Weird, but phenomenal.
3. A Book I Love: Profit First
I know people claim all the time that things are “game-changers” for them. And I don’t want to overuse that phrase – BUT – Profit First completely changed how I handle money in my business. It totally flips the model of profit being what’s left over after expenses, and instead, profit is what comes first and you run your business on what’s left.
4. Dinner I Make When I’m Alone: Fondue
I love cheese fondue. Like, LOVE. I can eat an entire package by myself with an entire baguette and not be sorry. When I was single and living by myself in Toronto in my early 20s, I would walk to the grocery store after work, pick up some fresh bread, pick up a bunch of cheese and sit on the couch and watch TV and eat fondue. It was perfection. Now, with two kids and a husband, dinners alone happen much less often (read: never) but sometimes I still sneak in some fondue time after the kids are in bed.
5. My Pet Peeve: Slow Drivers and Floaty Pants
There are two things that really bother me in this world: people who drive too slow in the left lane, and pants that are too short.
So, I might be a wee bit of an assertive driver. I’m all about “keep right except to pass” and I have little patience for slow drivers riding in the left lane. (You too?)
My other pet peeve is not as much of a problem as it used to be since pant legs have been on the skinny side for a while. But, back in the late 90s and early 2000s, super-wide pants were popular and I LIVED IN them. I’m tall (about 5’8″) with long legs, and there’s nothing worse than pants that are too short. I absolutely haaaate wide pants that float a few inches off the ground because they’re too short. I’m very grateful ankle-length pants became a thing, because, #TallGirlProblems.
6. A Hobby I Have: Decluttering and Organizing
I love organizing. I’m obsessed. I’ve been watching Get Organized with The Home Edit, and I’ve been rainbow organizing my pantry on the weekends and putting everything in storage bins and boxes. I used to be a professional organizer in addition to an interior designer and this has always been something I’ve been interested in. Yes, it’s kind of nerdy to say it’s a hobby, but it is absolutely something I do for fun in my downtime.
7. My Old Man Crush: Patrick Stewart
Admit it: you also have a crush on someone, probably a celebrity, who is inappropriately older than you. My “old man crush” since I was a kid has been Patrick Stewart from Star Trek. I love him.
I saw him in a commercial just last night, and despite being in his 70s, he’s still got it!
8. A Song That’s Always on My Playlist: Hanging By a Moment
Hanging by a Moment by Lifehouse has been my jam, my absolute favorite song, since it came out 20 years ago. And Lifehouse is still my favorite band. (If you haven’t noticed, I’m pretty into all things late 90s/early 2000s.)
9. My Dream Vacation: A Spa. Alone.
The bar is pretty low right now as I don’t get out much without my family, but honestly, a dream vacation would be somewhere nice at a spa without my kids. I love them, obviously. But I would love to get away for a bit and be somewhere beautiful in the world sleeping in and getting a facial and a massage without the responsibility of parenthood. Dreamy!
10. My First Job: A Radio Commercial
When I was 12 I had my first paid job on a radio commercial. Pretty sweet, right? I loved the work and collecting my first paycheck for a whopping $60 – but – I also had a mortifying moment in the recording studio that I’ll never forget. The dialogue was back and forth between two kids, a girl (me, obvs) and a boy. They asked me for the name of a boy to use in the script, and before thinking I blurted out the name of my crush.
I blurted out the name of my crush.
IN FRONT OF MY PARENTS.
And then I had to proceed to say his name over and over again while recording.
For a sixth-grader, this was pretty much the most embarrassing thing I could’ve done. Thankfully, I survived, got my check, and got the heck out of there.
