One Room Challenge: Week 2

Welcome to the One Room Challenge 2023! Over the course of 8 weeks, I’ll be completing a one-room makeover of my own living room. Follow along with all our One Room Challenge posts here.
Last week, you saw the before photos of my Macon, Georgia living room. This week, I’m going to take you behind the design and share the vision for the space, including the floor plan, moodboard, and a few initial design selections.
Lesley’s Living Room Floor Plan

Our current living room has a sectional and one accent chair, which I love for the functionality it brings to our family-friendly living room. While we were tempted to replace it with another sectional, we ultimately decided to re-upholster our beloved teal Chesterfield sofa instead.
Remember that awesome sofa? After the faux-leather upholstery deteriorated, we stuck a slipcover on it and it’s been taking up space in our primary bedroom. I’m excited to give it new life with a gorgeous contract-grade (read: incredibly durable!) mohair velvet from Kravet Fabrics. This new layout will be a change and leaves me with the challenge of a large blank wall to decorate, but I’m up for it.
Lesley’s Living Room Moodboard

Surprise, surprise – we’re going with teal (yet again!) for our sofa. It’s a color I never tire of, and the mohair velvet we selected is smokier and more sophisticated than the current saturated teal velvet on our sectional. It’s also durable enough to be cleaned with bleach (!) without damaging the fabric, and I’m looking forward to a sofa that can withstand two kids and two cats and still look brand-new.
I love cool teal paired with warm cognac leather, so since we’re losing the functionality of a sectional (namely that lovely inner corner where you can stretch your legs out!) we’ve opted for a pair of cognac leather recliners from Crate and Barrel.
Yes, you read that right – recliners. I never thought I’d include a recliner in my own home, but (gratefully!) these are surprisingly sleek and unassuming.

Above the fireplace, we’ll be installing a Frame TV which has been on my wishlist forever. Having “art” against that dark brick wall will help lighten and brighten the space. And my designer dreams are coming true with a pair of lumbar pillows in the iconic La Fiorentina fabric from Arianna Belle. I’ve been obsessed with this magenta geometric print ever since it appeared on the cover of the very first issue of Domino magazine in 2005
Next week, we’ll be diving into area rug options for my spring One Room Challenge living room – I’m torn between a few choices! (It’s much easier to make selections for clients than it is for my own home, without a doubt.)
