Blue Kitchen Design in a Historic Home
I designed this kitchen in 2019, during my Waco, Texas years, before Lesley Myrick Interior Design moved to Macon. I'm keeping it on the site because the problem it solves comes up constantly in historic homes across Middle Georgia, and my answer hasn't changed. Older house, real color, no fighting the architecture to get there.
The kitchen of a historic home in downtown Waco, Texas was a hot mess of piecemeal remodels that had taken place over many decades. Taking this kitchen down to the studs and completely reimagining the layout was the beginning of a complete transformation!
A fresh color palette of deep blue, crisp white and sunny yellow gives the space a current feel, while the bold patterned floor tiles are a nod to the home's history. View the full before and after project tour here.

Thinking about a historic kitchen?
Old houses have opinions. Ceiling heights that don't match, windows in the wrong places, and cabinetry that was added in 1978 and has been resented ever since. The work is figuring out which parts of that are worth keeping and which parts are just old.
