Before and After: Modern 1920’s Bungalow Primary Suite
A busy Macon, Georgia CEO reached out to Lesley Myrick Interior Design to update the bedrooms and bathrooms of her 1920s bungalow to better meet the needs of her partner and adult children after living in the home for nearly two decades. The goal? To transform a tired space into a fresh, personality-driven home with playful elegance.
Here’s a look at the primary bedroom and bathroom before, and after.
PRIMARY BEDROOM, BEFORE
This historic Macon home had great, classic bones – beautiful hardwood flooring, generous door and window casings, and enough square footage for the family thanks to a recent remodel and expansion. The primary bedroom had a functional layout, but lacked in style
PRIMARY BEDROOM, AFTER
Applied panel molding added depth and interest to the walls, and the deep blue paint color created a cozy feel. The clients requested a bedroom that felt like a boutique hotel that also paid homage to their love of Martha’s Vineyard, where they frequently travel and collect original local art and photography.
The textural indigo bedding and custom upholstered headboard are a nod to sand and sea, without being a literal interpretation of the seaside. (No starfish decor here!) The navy grasscloth nightstands and handmade plaster wall sconces bring in rustic textures with an element of sophistication.
PRIMARY BATHROOM, BEFORE
As evidenced by the overcrowded countertops, these double pedestal vanities weren’t functional for this professional couple. Just like the bedroom, the bathroom layout was working well – it just needed a cosmetic update to better reflect the couple’s tastes and provide more storage space.
PRIMARY BATHROOM, AFTER
Matching panel molding was added in the primary bathroom, tying in the architecture of the bedroom and bathroom and creating a luxe primary suite. The too-small pedistal sinks were replaced with a generous double vanity, allowing for more surface space and much-needed concealed storage.
We selected a lighter, brighter blue wall color for the bathroom to bring a fresh feel and coordinate with the bedroom without being ‘matchy-matchy’.
