Happy new year! We’re kicking it off with a fun before-and-after tour of our Broadway Lofts renovation project in Macon, Georgia. While we typically focus on full-service residential interior design projects, we do accept select small commercial and hospitality projects that are a great fit (and any time someone wants to design a custom arched door and large-scale wall mural, I’m in).

This project was all about giving the residents at Broadway Lofts a major upgrade to their amenities: the lobby, fitness center, bathrooms, and even the property manager’s office and workroom. The building itself has so much character—it’s a former sewing factory with these gorgeous, oversized windows and a cool industrial vibe. But let’s be honest… it needed some serious love in both functionality and style.

And can we talk about that random purple wall in the lobby? (Spoiler: it’s gone!)

Broadway Lofts – Before

The Broadway Lofts building in downtown Macon is one of those historic gems with so much potential. Think raw industrial elements, lots of natural light, and tall ceilings. But while the bones were amazing, the layout wasn’t working, and the design felt, well… uninspired.

Our goal was to turn these spaces into something that would not only look great but also serve the residents’ needs—whether they were grabbing coffee in the lobby, working out in the gym, or hanging out with friends.

Here’s what was on our to-do list:

  • Completely overhaul the lobby to make it functional and stylish.
  • Reimagine the fitness center and bathrooms with a more inviting layout and look.
  • Refresh the property manager’s office and workroom, giving these hardworking spaces the attention they deserve.

Every project starts with a big-picture idea, and for Broadway Lofts, we leaned into the building’s industrial vibe while adding some playful, modern touches.

The original plan was to use bold colors like teal, mustard, rust, and navy, paired with materials like brick and iron. We imagined mid-century-inspired furniture in durable performance fabrics (a must for high-traffic spaces) and a custom lighted marquee sign spelling out “BROADWAY.”

As we moved through the process, the design evolved—as it always does! We pulled back on some of the bold colors and went with a more refined palette. This let the standout features really shine, like a patterned wallpaper and a gorgeous arched iron and glass door.

Speaking of standout features, let’s talk about the power of 3D renderings. They’re one of my favorite tools for showing clients exactly how their space will look and feel. Even when things shift a bit from the renderings to the final product (like the marquee sign, which didn’t make the cut), they keep everyone on the same page.

This project has a lot of highlights, but a few elements truly steal the show:

The Lobby

The lobby is hands-down my favorite space in the project. Two big features bring it to life:

  1. A custom arched iron and glass door that’s as functional as it is stunning.
  2. A vibrant mural that turns the entire wall into an art piece.

There’s also plenty of space for residents to lounge, work, or catch up on their latest Netflix binge. Add in a cozy coffee bar, and it’s a spot where you’d actually want to hang out.

The Manager’s Office

We didn’t overlook the office! A bold piece of original art from Macon’s Joe Adams makes this space pop, proving that even the “behind-the-scenes” spaces deserve great design.

The Fitness Center & Bathrooms

These spaces were looking worn out and were in desperate need of some design love. Now, the fitness center has colorful, motivational artwork, and the bathroom feels brighter and more welcoming.

From that awkward purple wall in the lobby (yes, we’re still talking about it) to the underwhelming amenities, every corner of Broadway Lofts has been transformed. It’s now a space that feels fresh, functional, and full of personality—a place where residents can truly feel at home.
