Macon, Georgia Interior Design of a Living Room and Dining Room
Last month, I shared the before-and-after photos with you of my kitchen remodel. Now, this month’s Macon, Georgia interior design project features my living room and dining room makeover. While neither space needed remodeling, we updated the furnishings and decor to freshen up the design and ensure both rooms flowed well visually with the kitchen.
Living Room and Dining Room, Before
These “before” photos are from the online listing when we bought the home in 2019. The living room has great built-ins and a wood-burning brick fireplace, but the chunky farmhouse mantel wasn’t doing the room any favors and made everything feel heavy and drab. Surprisingly, when we pulled down the mantel to install a new one, we found the original mantel underneath (!) that was much more suited to the architecture of the home.
The dining room was a blank canvas that I knew would shine with a rich paint color, bold area rug, and funky furnishings.
Living Room Concept Design Moodboard
During the concept design phase, we create moodboards to communicate the vibe of each space, along with key furniture and decor selections. The design concept for the living room revolved around re-upholstering our beloved teal chesterfield sofa in a durable faux mohair velvet; adding leather recliners (the least recliner-looking ones I could source!), and introducing a fun and colorful area rug. We re-used the coffee tables from our Texas living room.
Living Room, After
The living room has so much more color and character than before! We updated the wall color to Sherwin-Williams Chatroom, which plays beautifully off the peacock blue, teal, cognac and raspberry tones in the furnishings and decor.
Dining Room, After
The deep peacock blue wall color (Sherwin-Williams Dark Night) really pops against the white wainscoting and trim! We replaced our mismatched dining chairs with matching Louis Ghost-style acrylic chairs, and I love the lightness it brings to this bold dining room.
Art plays a major role in our interior design projects at Lesley Myrick Interior Design (and especially in my own home!) and you’ll spot art prints in these photos by Jess Franks, Kathleen Jones, Tara McPherson, and Slim Aarons, as well as original pieces by Josh Young, Joe Adams, Jessica Ruth Freedman, my late grandmother, and my 6-year-old daughter.
